April is not the cruelest month this year. In fact, it's been filled with great writing days, sunny weather, time with friends and natural beauty. Take a look at some images I captured over the last few weeks.
Dancing flowers
Stunning colors
Chocolate smoothies
The hysterical and poignant Fat Ham at the Geffen with the fabulous Marcel Spears.
Then a drive north (and east) to Fresno State for a touring production of my TYA play Nice & Slow, directed by Nicola Olsen. The cast did a great job -- I loved spending time with them and the other folx on campus. I secretly wish I were a perpetual college student.
Here's the show poster on the theatre door.
The Cheetah cop pulls over Sam and the Sloth for speeding.
Sam shares a breakfast sandwich.
Woah, we're driving so fast!
Post-performance cast photo.
From Fresno, I put in a few hundred more miles so I could visit my cousin Ilene in San Francisco. We had an absolute blast at A Strange Loop at ATC. If you get a chance to see Fat Ham or A Strange Loop, go for it! It's an abundance of riches about fat, black, queer men, whose time has come to share their stories.
Ilene's dog Bear came with us on a hike in Marin.
There's nothing quite as nourishing for the soul as hiking among the redwoods.
See how happy we are.
Ocean Beach in San Francisco also showed off nature's beauty.
I drove home along the scene route, making some great stops along the way.
Breakfast at La Plaza Panaderia in Salinas.
Shell Beach/Pismo Beach
Came home just in time for seder at Ava and Jason's.
Dayenu!
