Driving: California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah
The temperature was well over 100 degrees in the desert, with the giant thermometer at Baker, California, registering 101 degrees. Regardless, the views were often breathtaking.
About 420 miles later, we arrived in Utah, just in time to catch dinner at the Parowan Cafe, where the local Rod and Gun Club was raffling off a Winchester hunting rifle for $1 per ticket. We didn't buy one since there is nothing to hunt in La Jolla.
